Subject: Stem vs. thickness

Is there any corrolation to the thickness of the stem and the thickness of the flesh on teh pumpkin. Does anyone know if of any other corrolations such as size of leaves, stems, flowers, etc. that may affect the wall thickness or is it mainly genetics of the seed.
