I had some time off, and i was wondering why the AGGC doesn't get the credit it deserves? Sorry Mr Nepereny, but this has been in my thoughts for a long time! As for me it is the single most valueable tool i have in understanding genetics, and gaining new ideas, and fresh ones! So i ask this, and no offence to BP.com it's great too! But from what i have seen since 1999 yeah i was here, just in the shadows, is this site is maintained i bet by 90% by it's users. On the other hand new, and world class growers use the AGGC i would assume on a daily basis. Am i wrong? And to beat all, the AGGC is maintained 100% by 1 person, that just blows my mind. So today i say thank you to Mr Mike nepereny, and putting credit where a credit is way over due! In our Hobbie/Sport.

Why have certain growers stopped reporting to the site?

Yes, WHY HAVE SOME GROWERS STOPPED REPORTING TO THE AGGC? The site is incredibly useful but its usefulness is diminished when we don't have data from all pumpkins. I've been wondering why the various weigh offs don't report the data so that everything would get reported. Most weigh offs enter all of the data anyway--why not send it to Mike?

I meant to say, "most organizations enter the data for their pumpkins in excel or something so it should be easy to get it over to the AGGC

Well, not to take away from AGGC, but this site is not maintained by its users, it maintained mostly by Ken. Users add content, just like AGGC.
There is something about paying for the service too I am sure some dont like. You may say, well its only $20, but the bread and butter of the site is there, I dont know what kind additions are being made to it, but at some point after initial development, the amount of work required to manage/maintain drops significantly.
Also, getting a response from Mike can sometimes be impossible. Some growers on this site have mentioned that before.
That being said AGGC is valuable, for sure.

I've had good success getting replies from Mike. The only time I had trouble was when I was using what I think was an out of date email address.

I think the site needs to be easier to access. I think people ought to be able to register their pumpkins for free without signing up for the service or some secret handshake. I don't think twenty dollars is too much to ask, but there is no reason to restrict the registration of pumpkins to members only. I am a non-member who tried to figure out how to register my pumpkin one night and all i could find was the sign in page... Googled it and all..just a sign in page-that carrys no information on how to jion or how to contact anyone...so i gave up.

If complete data is not entered yearly, then the worth of the whole system decays. Its a shame to see a resource like this decay. I cant check GPC data and cross reference it to the AGGC. It will get worse every year. Im sure there is a reason why data is not being entered, that people are troubled by something including the big hitters but I dont know what. It would be best for everyone to be up front and go to a solution mode.Id like to hear from folks that stopped entering what the problem is. My two cents. Dave

I posted all three of our notable pumpkins this year but only two have "stuck" despite multiple attempts. Could it be that the new registration process is overwhelming some growers? I know may way around a computer & still had some wrinkles. Unless I had all of the data sitting in front of me I found myself "timing out" before I was finished. Maybe it's too frustrating for some folks?
