I see a number of growers are upset about sending seeds out that will not get planted. I myself have sent out about 1500 seeds or more over the last 10 years and maybe 15 have been tried. I am not upset about this at all. I look at it this way if I dont send them out I will have a bunch of jars full of seeds at home in my closet that wont get planted as well. I only can plant 4 plants. I like to start 15. And choose the best looking ones as my 4. If a storm hits like in 2001 or a flood occurs like the last 2 years my season is still alive if I have good backup plants in my greenhouse. Or if a friend of mine has issues I can step up to the plate and help him out. I gave Charlie Houghton the plant he grew the 1337 World record from. I was a big seed collector early on and most of the seeds I never tried that became sought after I gave to our club for auction or raffles. I never would have had alot of the real famous seeds if I did not aquire them before they were proven. I have been turned down by a few growers this year already when I asked for proven seeds. So unless I want to pay big money at auction which I dont have. I like to send my seeds out and hope that others can return the favor. Now growers like me who dont have big money have a chance to aquire the next top seed to come along. Lets have some input on this topic.

Matt, I certainly agree. The auction and offers do add to the sport and various charities in cases but I find my budget a little too tight to be going after seeds that are proven at this time. I have no problem planting seeds that are not proven. I do admit I was a little sad last night watching the auction knowing I probably would not be bidding over $100 for a group of seeds but that is just that. I did get my spirits lifted by some very generous growers that are willing to help. I will pay it back or forward however I can. good post.

I agree , unless there is truely a really low seed count from one particular fruit. David
