Whats the deal with this stuff. I know the fungi is good for soil and i know were to get it. Do people put it at the root nodes or the whole patch. I know you put it in the stump area.
Now i have not herd much about humic acid. What form seems to work the best and were do you get it.
I would love some insight on why this stuff is making pumpkins bigger.
Thanks Alex G

Alex..........give the term or item name "humic acid" to Google. There is more data and opinion available than I can comprehend.
The fungi you seek is very nicely explained on the Bio Organics web site. Mycorrhiza is as old as time itself. The only reason we innoculate every spring is the fact that we do not have live roots to support it in the winter temperatures of the Northeast.
Technically I have come to understand that one fungi cell and one root making contact with that cell is whole plant innoculation for that growing year. The fungi outraces the roots running way out and ahead of the roots. The roots grow into this huge cob web like structure of fungi where the association continues and expands from that point. Some mostly sellers, of the product, suggest up to whole patch application. You will have to read up and make your own opinion of this root fungi relationship. I only dust a pinch of Mycorrhiza in my planting holes. I have seen Mycorrhiza as far away from the supporting patch as ten feet. Then there are the strands I could not see with the naked eye reaching out even further.
Shelf life is about three years so buy accordingly so as not to waste in storage loss.

Good answer Docpipe I wanted to comment about the benefits of Humic Acid but your right you google it and theres just too much info. I apply it in the fall and then again during the growing season over the whole patch. Mycorrhiza comes in different forms and some companies suggest using it on the entire garden. I use the soluble kind and put it in my sprayer mix accordinly and spray all my plants and surronding soil. It wouldnt hurt to spray the whole patch only your wallet but I believe it really needs to come in contact with the roots of the plants to do much. But of course sellers of the producet say to use on whole garden. Two good products and worth using but I doubt either of them are the silver bullet.

Id like to also add that worm castings which you dont need a lot of just a top dressing and a little tilled in are rich in Humus and make a great addition to humic acid sprays.

Alex,
You might get something out of reading this short simplified article on humic acid.

Thanks every one. Bill is greensmith a national company? Might be hard for me to get it from your supplier.
So, I'm guessing here, it wouldn't be a bad idea to spread that fungi in your stump area. Then, just add a little to each root node of the plant from there on? I thnk thats what Dan Mckie told me.

You can buy Fertrell products in almost any state in the USA. Most pumpkin growers in Northeast use all there products. $52.00 is a lot to spend for that when there is a dealer for Fertrell in Colorado. Here is there web site and you can find a dealer in your own state plus all the products they make and carry. http://www.fertrell.com/outlets.html

Thats what I was thinking 100 pounds is a lot. I actually prefer the soluble kind its easier for me just to use my atv sprayer and spray instead of spreading. Either way works fine though.

Biz went a bit heavier on his so after I beat him this year We can use that for his excuse....lol Unless he ....AH never mind ....wont happen.....lol
Glenn our patch up at Jareds.....Sweet........we finished throwing out 20 yards of 2 year old horse stuff was like spagnum compost...double dug down to 18". Patches were expanded 12' wider. We needed some air space between plants after last year. Kelp Meal, Humic, Super Cal, Sulphur, Fish & SW, MicroNutrients.... 150 lbs of coffee and 150 bags of leaves all tilled in and covered with 2" of snow this AM. We be tired.
