I just ordered a nice batch of organic products consisting of Bat Guano, Fish Emulsion and a Bio Stimulant. The close out sale was discounted deeply which I appreciated....for a few minutes.
Now here this.........the company just E'd me inform me that any liquids now require Ground Shipping at $24.00 additional. That in this case makes a three hundred percent increase in shipping. In this case that represents an increase exceeding 25% of the total order process cost.
My feeling is that the distributor is out of this type of business while the carrier will soon be trucking the same miles with less freight because you and I will just not pay that kind of an increase except where we must.
Where we must is for our medicines....most of which in my case are liquids. I see some serious situations rising from the edges, of the dust, of fuel cost increases.

It is good to see you back Dwaine.
That $24 must be from UPS? I shipped some non-hazardous liquids (fertilizer) by USPS about 6 weeks ago & while it wasn't cheap it wasn't outlandish either.
Here's a handy USPS rate calculator:
http://postcalc.usps.gov/
A 58# box (5 gallons fluid fert) measuring 24"x16"x16" = $17.85 Parcel Post from Bridgeport CT to Philadelphia, PA. but that might not include penalties for shipping a liquid??? Something new maybe?
We hate to do it but all of our sales now include a 1.5% fuel surcharge. We make nothing on the transactions since all of our vendors are already wacking us the same 1.5% on the inbound. The cost of fuel being what it is we'll see more of this before it's over.

I sell $5 Million worth of goods to my customer every year. A couple years ago we started a fuel surcharge on every pallet of material we ship them. Ours is adjusted monthly based on that months current avg US gas price. Its going to get worse before it gets better im afraid.
