I recently read The Backyard Giant book. I choose this book b/c I have been a landscaper for years, and I have grown pumpkins for years. I found the book to be well written, interesting, and an amazing story. I have to admit that my hat is off to you guys, I had no idea what went into growing giant pumpkins and I had no idea that they got that big. My 4 year old twins and I have enjoyed looking at your website (which is very well done), and are hoping to go to a giant pumpkin patch next year, maybe even a weigh-off. We live in Kansas, is there anything in the midwest?
Thank you. And Congratulations to all of you!

Send this gentleman a couple of seed. One of my growers got a 500 + from a direct seeding on a compost pile with not an ounce of other work...save removal of excess fruit.

Half that would please those boys of his.

Thanks guys! I don't know that we are up to growing a truly giant pumpkin, I only have have 3/4 of an acre. We have been growing the tiny 2-4" variety and then the pie pumpkins, but I think that we will try a bigger one this year, but for our purposes I can just get some Mammoth seeds from my local nursery I think. If the timing works out I think that we may try to visit a weigh-off, although it looks like at a state fair is the best venue for us (the twins will not stay interested in something all afternoon), I also think that we may visit a patch late in the season.
Thanks!
Chris
