This should be a fun post, what is the oldest seed you have in your collection? My oldest is a 900 Lyons 1994. I tried this seed this year and coulnt get it to germinate, I have one left and going to try it again next season.

The old WALLACE 406er from 1992. biggest seed i ever saw. HUGE, at least 1 and 1/8 inches long, wide and FAT.
Every year i think about planting it just for sh--s and giggles but never want to push something else aside.

Regular germination methods aren't enough (as a rule). Potassium Nitrate & GA3 will get stubborn old embryos going if they have anything left. But once there's a glimmer you need to get it into a sterile agar solution to make sure that ONLY the embryo is growing & not some fatal fungus.
Brigitte might be able to do this at school if she has access to a lab. Adam Wheeler too but he's a busy guy.

Tremor what the GA3?, would you use the potassium Nitrate as to soak the seed in, or would you have to start these older seeds in the solution that your talking about until you get a good root going? What about temperature, same temps as we use on regular seeds?

I have 2 seeds from 1986 that I ordered from Harris Seeds (Rochester, NY) still in the original packet. The packet came with 5 seeds and is labeled Lot No. 689-58972. Obviously no telling what the cross is. I planted 3 in 1986 and grew a pumpkin about 175 to 200 lbs. Other than that I have 658 Rose 93* 900.5 Lyons 94 714 Mombert 95
