else still growing? We have not had our first freeze here in Northern Ca. I live at the 2800 foot elevation almost halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. My pumpkin is at 285 OTT. The plant is still growing and put out a female flower yesterday. Hard to belive it's almost Thanksgiving and I still have one on the vine.

Is the pumpkin still growing or just the plant?

A Christmas pumpkin...cool!! Carved with a Santa face or theme will look great.
scbbc...why is it going to split now? Let us know if it keeps growing.

If I were you I would enjoy it as long as I could. As long as the fruit appears healthy, why not. Please keep posting.

Yep them new growers give all that sound advice...As long as it doesn't freeze you could grow a pumpkin plnat year around as long as it stays healthy.

Well you couldn't grow the same plant year round, but you could grow a plant.

Hi Shannon, I don't know if you were referring to me or not. My suggestion was based on pure sentiment, nothing else. I'm a little envious of The Painter, wish I still had one growing. If you notice, your post is similar to mine. Kinda nice to see someone still growing.

Andy, I don't think Shannon was referring to you rather the first posting which was not sound advice at all.
Unfortunately, it appears there are a few people lurking on this site and offering advice as though they know what they are talking about and have little or no experience at all.
No offence to scbbbc, but aren't you very new at this game?

Well he aint the only one offering inaccurate advice....I've grown the same plant year round for 3 seasons....and they will continue to grow until frost of some other life ending developement.

I have already been corrected.
I was under the impression that they only lasted about 150 days. Any that I have seen by that time have leaves that are brown and dying. There is always new growth, but the old stuff begins to look pretty rough. I suppose if you had a long stretch and you let it keep growing forward it would work. I don't think the stump would last that long, but the roots from the nodes would supply nutrients I guess.
I think LI would be a better person to elaborate on how its done effectively since he has done it.
LI, what kind of space are/were you growing it in. Any specific pruning/training patterns, etc? Did you train the plant back over the old root/vine system? In a green house? What seed did it come from?
Very interesting stuff.

:-P, but really, if your going to look it up in the dictionary, you would have to spell it right.

This time of year we need pictures...We start to miss the green growth...we get cooped up in the house. The stupid sun, its dark when you go to work dark when you go home. We tend to get a little jumpy.
