It has been proposed that the Williamsport Area Giant Pumpkin Growers acting as a supporting group of growers to the Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin Growers plan to hold a Regatta in Williamsport. The tenative plans include effective sponsorship to provide trophies and cash awards for some interesting categories. All subject to be changed or improved upon the categories may include: Winners of races, best dressed pirate in pumpkin, best general looking quality pumpkin boat and best organized boat builder person or group.
The race is proposed to be held on the Susquehanna River in a pool where water speed is less than two niles per hour.
The course will be around markers over aproximately three hundred yards.
The date proposed and very likely to be the final date is Saturday October 11, 2008.
Off loading of commpetitive pumpkins would be between 8AM and 9AM by forklift. Building or finishing of the making will stop at noon. Entry into the water for the start signal of the first race will be at 1PM.
We badly need to hear from growers indicating interest and to help us plan the support needs. Please send E to me or state here on BP your initial interest. We guarentee this to be a 110% fun day. Given your interest we will seriously consider making this an annual event.
We need digital pix from other regatta sites to support our media. We will do our best to generate community and area interest in this event. We are already assured of TV and local coverage. We expect by regatta day to have regional news interest. We will use BP from time to time to present this event as it develops.
Please consider joining us in the first Pennsylvania Regatta.

Dwaine -
I'll send you some pics from the MA Pumpkin Paddle, you can also go to pumpkinpaddle.com for some ideas. Get a good organizing committee, it's a lot of work to pull off on your own. If anyone lives in the New England area, Channel 5's 'Chronicle' (WCVB)is doing a segment on my 2008 regatta on Wednesday, November 21 at 7:30p. Nice to see you posting Dwaine, best of luck.

We are open to suggested race categories and your feelings concerning trophies, ribbons and such. Your general comments are important too. Thanks to those who have made suggestions.
Now you can help formulate a start up regatta! Keep on talking.
