What is a good price to get 10 yards of compost delivered to a patch? The reason I ask is because me and sister are having a sad time right now. Our patch needs a boost for 3 yrs now we have been shooting under 300pds and this next season we had big plans to go big. We found a compost company with a awesome price and really good stuff. We talked to him and he said he has people that deliver the stuff at a cost. The 6 yrd truck will deliver for $60.00 and hr and the 15 yrd truck can deliver for $80.00 an hr. We googled it and we are about 47 minutes from the place. We had the money all ready and where really excited to get the compost in the garden. We called the one company and the guy says its now gonna be 80 one way and 80 going home so thats a cost of 160.00 dollars. Plus the cost of the compost. We asked our local growers for help and although all where nice to us no one has a dump truck LOL. We are not big spenders as all my money goes into growing my son up right. That price is gonna take a huge huge chunk out of my x-mas savings. I was wondering If I should just suck it up and pay the price or should we look around? We really want this compost and we feel that with this added to our patch we will grow big this next season. So I'm asking you all what price have you paid for compost before?.As for why not haul in sisters big truck,Thats a good question her truck can only hold one yard at a time and for the 10 yards we would like thats alot of traveling. Thanks all for any advice you may have and may you all grow big next season.

i'm paying about $30 per yard. getting a load of about 8 yards delivered hopefully next week for additional $60, at roughly the same distance as yours. the guy delivering mine is a contractor who has to go to that area for another job anyway, so i may be getting a break on delivery cost.

Our city has a compost site, it is free in the spring, you can drop off leaves, branchs or pick up compost, there are 5 sites in the mpls/st'paul mn area.

I paid $20 per yard for compost and the delivery charge was $120...for up to 12 yards. So for me, that worked out to $30 per yard.

I shared some with the other Bozy and used the rest for myself and the other gardens.

Fogsurfer...careful with city compost...you'll be buying all the chemicals that your neighbours use and it might not be composted correctly...I would question free.

i go to my local town yard it's free..but they do'nt dump it in your truck..gotta shovel it in..i shovel it into garbage cans, dump it in the patch.. i dont like shoveling 2x!..or take the dump trailer to the town i work for(30 miles each way) i get the payloader to dump it in to the trailer..spend more time shoveling, or more gas money..i would look for a horse stable near by and use sis's truck to haul it

Hey Curvy,
If you have to make 15 trips in yalls truck to haul the 15 yards you will spend more on fuel than the dilivery fee would be, plus you will have to unload it when you get home.

I have a dump truck and I had it delivered. That is the going price around here. You have to figure you are tying up a driver, truck and fuel for around 3hrs. My truck is too busy making me money. If I slow down at the end of the month, I might take a ride out there. That compost is worth the cost. You might want to also contact Rick at the
horse farm in Bartlett. They have composted horse manure for free. They can come and dump 40 yards on you -FREE.
I have used that stuff for years and it is great

A note of caution that you will likely be charged for waiting time, dumping time, etc so as George indicated it will likely cost u about 3 hours. I would negotiate a flat rate in advance if possible. I would go with 15 yards but if he cant back up to the patch that is ALOT of shovelling from the driveway!

In Windsor, the City sells what they call black gold, which is composted leaves, clippings, etc. It goes for $12.50 a yard and you can have a dump truck deliver it for an extra $50.

Beware of Municipal Compost...Almost every city person I know weed and feeds..We screwed up a good patch one year with treated grass clippings from a source.

Good advice Shannon, I had our Municipal compost tested before using it a few years ago and the tests not only came back toxic in certain elements but was not fully composted properly which would have added everyone elses chemicals to my patch.

I have used Municipal compost as one of my main ingrediants for years. I used more than ever this year and got a new personal best, 1176. But I assume all centers are different so a test is prob a good idea.

8 yds of Horse poop delivered in this area cost 120 $$$. But you have to be careful of excessive amounts of shavings mixed with the manure ! If you got the strength, strong nose and a truck then go for the 15 yds ! And don't forget that it will take time and wear & tear on your vehicle ! Good luck !

I requested soil test results on this stuff and it looks great. I used it - around 12 yards this year and grew 988 and 1066. Yes, you should know what you are putting in the soil. Always get a soil test report.

Im surprised that several places here to buy dairy they cut it with ground wood chips. Guess one needs to personally know the cows.....

I have received ten tons of leaves this fall, delivered for free from a local lawn service. They have to pay $35/ton tipping fee to be rid of it so it's good for both of us.
