I have used 1 inch thick Styrofoam but curious as to what others use and what works best?

But to answer your question, we put a non slip mat ontop of a 1/4 or 3/8 piece of plywood on top of the pallet. This elimates slid and damage from the slats.

Ive used many different methods. I used the insulation board this year and had no problems. Ive used staright sand and had one pumpkin get a rotted hole in the bottom side. My favorite method which ive never had a problem with is a 4*4 peice of cheap ply wood covered in sand. It seems to fend off the critters and the sand allows for movement as the pumpkin grows.

pulp mill fabric is the best, very durable, water flows through it, critters wont chew through it

Wrench I am pretty sure that I read some where that someone lost a big pumpkin because the styrofoam underneath broke or collapsed due to the pumpkins weight. It might be ok for smaller pumpkins, but I would be real wary about using it if you are getting pumpkins of size. KathyT
