I posted this in the "coffee" blog on the Soil Prep message board, but though I'd get more hits here:
I've been adding Starbucks to my patch for about the past month. On their bags with spent coffee grounds that they leave at the door for free it says that the pH is 6.8 or 6.9. On their website it says that the grounds are acidic and need some lime applied if added directly to the garden. If the pH is 6.8 or 6.9, why would you need to add lime...sounds perfect to me? I have been doing that also, it also said to add leaves and such and it will neutralize the acidic, It speeds up the composting in your garden/patch.

I would compost it first-if youre using alot. I have a friend that would bring over around 50 lbs at a time and I'd throw it on the compost pile. I noticed that it would get real hot quickly. Must be high in nitrogen
