Anyone put coffee grounds in the patch in the spring or is it better to put down in the fall or both?
Thank you

I think I'm going to be putting them on through out the winter as they become available and tilling in spring adding a little more lime to balance the acid. I have a feeling Starbucks is going to be sick of seeing my face by spring. lol.

It's a slow release nitrogen. I always add alot to my compost pile. also worms love coffee grounds.

Hello Ray, I put the grounds down on our patch during the winter months, about a 5 gallon pail/day. Its easy to see where you last spread the grounds over the snow. In the spring we add molasses and ring the dinner bell for the earth worms to move in.

Use coffee grounds all winter right into early spring. Earthworms love coffee grounds. They can either be broadcast on the patch or used in a "brown" compost pile. At about 2% Nitrogen they would be used like grass clippings in a compost pile.

My question is, Starbucks says the coffee must be used within a few weeks. Is this true?

I put a bag of coffee chaffee, it like the shell of the coffee bean, I don't know if it will help but it makes my garden area look better.

The "few weeks" would seem to be too fast to lose the nutrients. At any rate it would likely improve the texture of the soil and should add to the nutrient content. I hit up 3 Starbucks every few days and can't even seem to make a dent in the content of the soil.

I added around 4,000 lbs of grounds to my patch for each of four straight years.....plus tons and tons of TAGRO(sterilized sewage) and compost. My organic readings went up a whopping 3%! Gets discouraging.
