Over the years, having to travel a few hours on the highways. I have come to believe Thumbs Up is the Offical Gesture for thats a big pumpkin. Now if we could just get them people driving with them stupid cell phone cameras to stay in their lane..LOL We call the ones that pass you than slow to view the pumpkins again Gawkers.

Johm my patch partner and I were driving home from a weigh off with the pumpkin in the back of the truck. We were talking and I wasn't paying attention to what was going on around me, then John pointed out all the cars and all the cameras slowing down to look at us, give us the thumbs up and to take a picture. Everyone loves a pumpkin.....big or small they always get a smile. Look around your neighborhood, pumpkins everywhere, just sitting in the yard, on the porch, some carved, some just basking in the fall sun. It's fun to be in a "sport" that always brings a smile to someone else! ~Chriss

LOL!!
Driving home from the weigh off was the most fun of the day! It took me longer to get out of the gas station parking lot than it did going in to purchase an iced tea. It was all thumbs up here also. People didn't know what to think when I told em my pumpkins were small, "464 & 608". LOL Makes you feel pretty good when someone tells you that's the biggest pumpkins they have ever seen in their lives.
The truck I was using had a hard time getting going from a stop. We passed a Schnieder truck with my brother hanging half out the window and acting like he was rowing a boat. I could see that driver in the rear viewing laughing so hard I don't know hwo he kept control of that rig..

Nice topic Shannon, one of my more enjoyable roadtrips was to Indy this year...tons of thumbs up and photos, on the hiway doin 70. We stopped for gas and two very pretty young ladies came over from across the street to ask the usual question "are those real"??? One of the young ladies was wearing a "very nice pair of shorts with "Dale Earnhardt" on the backside". One of our group whispered...."I aint never seen Dale lookin so good"!!!! So much fun!!! Peace, Wayne PS...I realize that this is sorta sexist, and not meant to offend anyone....but Chriss only half hit the nail, this sport brings smiles to us growers too!!! Peace, Wayne

In between the cursing of the bugs, the long hours in the patch and the dirt under our nails....etc...etc...this sport sure does bring smiles to us growers too!! Expecially this time of year when we are so full of hope for NEXT YEAR!!! ~Chriss

I had almost as much fun taking my pumpkin to the weigh-off and bringing it back home as I did at the weigh-off. Peoples reactions (and thumbs up) were amazing. Even had people asking questions at stop lights!

I drove my pumpkin to the vet today to get some kitten food. My vet finished up in surgery and came out to have a picture taken with it. Now the problem is how to get the pumpkin out of the truck. It can't stay there forever.

Nothing better then driving to or from a weigh off with a pumpkin uncovered.

I see two types of people. One group is talking on the cellphone, going upwards of 90mph, and don't even look in my direction while I have the big orange in the back.
Others slow down, smile, wave, honk their horns, and whip out their cellphones to take pictures. My younger kids really get a kick out of watching people's reactions.

autumn, just carve it in the bed of the truck, then you can take a shovel to it after Halloween, or it will turn to mush soon after
