did you folks ever wonder why most of the veteran growers dont post on bp? why they dont offer advise or answer questions? why they are reluctant to get involved when they could be of the most help to everyone?

with some its just a personal choice to stay within themselves ,grow there competition pumpkins and show up (or should i say show you up ) come weigh off day.

others have had bad experiences with growers firing away on this site and have decided to stay off.

ill be the firt to admit that some questions get redundant and at times can be very basic. but people need to realize that this is how new growers get started. they come to big pumpkins .com to learn, some to make friends and others to grow a giant pumpkin.
they are not on this site to become a world champion. they just want to be a part of something and enjoy gardening. the quest for a championship should come later once the basics have been mastered.

lets all try and keep this in mind when rushing to reply to a redundant or seemingly silly question.
peoples feelings get hurt and the human reaction is to fire out. which only makes things worse. to many good people on this site to let that happen

thanks

pap

Thanks PAP,

The whole process is a giant jigsaw puzzle and people enter at different times over the year at all levels of experience. Maybe Ken can add a thread for people who know everything. Unfortunately, it would be empty.

Thank you pap! That thread had me very upset. We needed someone like you to put an end to it. Thanks for being one of the veteran growers that does take the time and who really cares.

There are only a couple of questions that I get tired of answering, but I answer them anyway....1.How many pumpkin pies does that make? 2.Is that thing real? 3. How many years did it take you to grow that?
Those may seem really, really dumb, but for someone who doesn't know, you have to answer them anyway. Its been a couple of years since I've been on BP much, but I came back because of all the interesting and knowledgable growers. I was in caht not long ago, and I asked something and was told to look at a certain thread. I didn't take offense to that and looked it up. Research and learning is the key, no matter how long you've been growing. It is true that not everybody knows everything. It has been fun getting in chat again and I look forward to talking to everyone this winter. Any questions about cloning...email [email protected]

McPumpkin, yes it does. use as much as you can directly on and in the fruit. Cut a hole if you must.

I have been guilty of answering a new-B's question, with "do a site search"!!! There is so much info available on this site....maybe trying to answer the question first, and then suggesting what great info is available thru search function would be better. Peace, Wayne

I've used the search function myself and it's very helpful.

I'm a second season grower and still have loads of questions. It's great that they are answered so quickly.

But there have been a few postings here that are down right rude and not necessary. We're all here for the same purpose, growing giant pumpkins, not for what's been going on at a few threads further down.

I agree with you 100% pap. You just have to be patient with the people around you and have tolorance for those who are not patient. Spread the good will to your fellow people.

i have learned from my mistakes of the past, believe you me i have done some popping off myself in my younger years.

sometimes if we just think about something for a moment before we press " SEND " or "POST REPLY " we will be better off

unfortunately we can say anything we want to anyone but, ONCE YOU PUT IT IN PRINT THERES NO TAKING IT BACK.

This to me brings one thought into mind, "DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU". I feel there are no dumb questions, there are just dumb answers. I'd like to thank Howard Dill for making this Great Sport all possible!! Just my 2 bits for what its worth, Dean.......
