grow a massive pumpkin plant over it and shade it too death -lol. If you can, till it under. It will act just like a cover crop. If not ,spray with roundup. the resisdual wont hurt your pumpkins. You have to spray when the grass is growing.

As a pro landscaper, there are many waysto kill your grass.
Chemicals, like Roundup, Killz all, Finale, are my favorite
Organically, Remove it then till it, Dig up the sod Cover it with a Black plastic all winter Mow your grass really short,
Hire the neighborhood kid for 15 an hour.

Just till it in good. After 3-4 passes with a heavy duty tiller you, wont even be able to tell grass was there. Add to OM too.

Fire is good too. If it's legal then spreading dry hay & for fuel is great.

OK what kind of grass is it? If it is an evasive grass by tilling it you are asking for trouble. We use Poast or Sethoxydim on grasses in the field patch. You can go right over the top of the pumpkins..

Children and pets can do a pretty good job of it. Or you could apply a moss killer and water it in then one week later put down a weed killer and have the hot sun bake it for two days. That method had me replacing the entire front lawn in 06. On the other hand if you want grass to grow someplace put a flower bed there...by the end of a the summer you should have a nice lawn.
