Subject:  sawdust ok for patch?

are saw dust/wood chips ok for the patch.

i was using the chainsaw in the patch today cutting up some logs and the chips/saw dust is all over the place.

is it ok..

A little is not bad...to much will tie up the nitrogen in your soil..

To add to Shannon's post, sawdust does not break down fast and as he stated takes a bit of needed Nitrogen to compost. I added horse manuer with shavings two years ago and the shavings still can be seen. Going for the old stuff this year. Better additives are leaves and anything you can find locally that is composted. I agree, what came off the chainsaw will not hurt.
