I was wondering if those who grew pumpkins over 1300 lbs. would post a reply to this message? I am looking at how to beat the heat here next year and grow a huge one.
What did you do in fall patch prep? Cover Crop?
In the spring what did you do first? Did you start your plant then transplant? What fertilizer program or type of fertilizers did you use from start to finish (time of day)? How did you apply fertilizers?
How did you water your plant and how often? Did you mist in the hotter weather, and if you did how? How did you protect and care for your plant from the weather elements such as shade the plant? Did you shade or cover your fruit, what with?
What number was the fruit on the vine and how far out? How many males did you use to pollinate it with?
What spray programs did you use? When did you do it (time of day)? How did you apply it? Type of vine pattern did you use? What size area did you grow it in? Plant main length, width, and secondaries?
What was your hottest weather? I have to grow in heat over 100 up to 115 degrees some days, for almost a month is the reason I ask about your hottest days. I am looking for the better seed that can take the hot weather we have. I got to find an advantage so that I won’t get beat by Jon next year,,, LOL. I would like to thank the growers who will take the time to answer these question to help not only me but many other growers.

If you are growing in the heat 100+temps sunscreens and misters are a must.

Thank You to all that have replied. I was hoping to get a wider response to see what all that might be done different by some of the growers to get the huge growth like they do. I thought with a wider outlook on how it was done that we might see something that was not in common by some of the growers. Again Thank You to everyone.I will be getting the dvd by Wallace and raggu I need to get in contact with Dave again, been a while since I chatted with him. Suzy I have always used the shade cover over my plants but have been rethinking that approach and just use misters. What did Pete do to grow his big one out there this year?

I was a member year before last but did not renew last year on account of being hurt and not able to grow the past couple years.I am getting ready to send you a money order for this years membership. I am looking at maybe getting the DVD from your group also. I been getting the patch ready for next year and am looking forward to being able to grow again finally. Now to find a couple great seeds and battle the heat here growing again.
Thanks
Thomas
