I have a 400+ pumpkin on display at a liquor store (bartered a case of wine for it). Pumpkin is in good shape, but the stem is getting soft on one side. It needs to last until the end of Oct. How can I slow down the rotting? It may be a mess if goes all the way into the cavity.I'm a 3rd yr grower. Thanks in advance for any advise.

I had the same problems and found that a bleach solution works great.1 too 10 ratio works fine and should help.

Yes, I washed the entire pumpkin, including the stem, in bleach solution before bringing it to the store. I will do it once again. I thought about capton, but I was afraid to have it exposed to the public. Thanks

Yeah I wouldnt use Captan at this point you could paint a little Daconil on it but Bleach is probally the best thing. If it continues to rot strengthen the bleach solution.

You can use the cleanser Comet. Dig out most of the soft portion and dust with Comet. It has bleach and other things that keep it dry and clean. I also used this method on a growing pumpkin with great success.

Remove the soft part immediately...the whole stem preferably. You need to get rid of the bacteria that is causing the rot. Then treat it again with either your bleach solution, rubbing alchohol, peroxide...any kind of antibacterial anticeptic.
