Congratulations to Fenton McInnis of Hubbards, Nova Scotia who entered the biggest and heaviest orange c. pepo species ever at 145 lbs. at the 2007 weigh-off here in Windsor on October 6. It was very tall and wide, circumference of 85 inches. A little late posting but we have been extremely busy since the weigh-off. We are still mesmerized by all the 2007 giant pumpkin weights; 20 some now over 1400 lbs. What can we say but WOW! Congratulations to all! Danny
PS Will post picture of field pumpkin shortly.

Fenton's 145 lb. field pumpkin was from seed that he has been selecting and growing for 10 years. He told me he originally got the seed from one of dad's big field pumpkins, so I assume it has to be a descendant of either a Howden and/or Jumpin' Jack which were the 2 big varieties 10 years ago. Fenton has entered a very large field pumpkin every year in Windsor, usually around the 100 lb. range. In regards to Phat Jack, we grew it for the first time this year and what a thumper! Big, thick, long handles and many in the 60-80 lb. range with hardly no care. Hey Jim, you're right, everything is big and we'll see a 200 lb. field pumpkin soon. Danny Pictures are posted on Howard's grower diary.

No...Big Max are soft stemmed pumpkins like Atlantic Giants. I Field pumpkin starts green and turns orange.
