What happens to all of the vines and leaves after all of this? What do you do with the pumpkins after they're carved? Sorry if this seems stupid, but next year will be my first year growing and I'll probably have all kinds of stupid questions...

Leaves and vines are pulled up and thrown away or added to a compost pile. After the pumpkin is carved it ain't gonna last long, it goes to the same place the vines go.

jennie we disguard the vines and leaves( to much chance for disease carryover ). make any compost from maple leaves and fresh manure (chickem and cow ) old hay and straw, horse droppings, food waste, one year in advance of using. must turn pile occasionally in spring and summer to encourage microbial activity.adding some mollasses to the pile helps as well, plus there are many places to buy compost additives ) a small bin made from wooden pallets works well also if your doing a smaller amount. the openings in the pallet allows for air to penetrate all around the pile pap
