I have heard 3 or more times in the past week calcium is a big benifit to pumpkins, strong cell walls, your pumpkin won't split if it grows fast for one. It looks like I will buy some. Whats the best way to give it to the plants, tea, folliar, work it into the ground.

At this point in time, throw some gypsum in when you till. If its too late for that, there are several water soluble ones that can be applied directly to soil or from overhead.

Fog: I agree with Jordan. But, I must say it's never too late to use calcium (pellitized) in the patch. I used it in the fall, spring and mid August. If you have low pH (under 6.4) use Lime instead. It definately helps the pumpkin and the plant.

We'll talk Saturday. The type of calcium you use depends on your soil test.

I have heard that gypsum may lower the ph is this true?

I add Gypsum in the fall but it can be added spring too. I also use liquid from Agro-K once a week or so in the feeder as a foliar. I also use micronutrients as a liquid foliar throughout the season every week or two to make sure they are available.

calcium is one of the keys to pumpkin weights. (thickness)
it is not very mobile in the soil and takes some time to work.
calcium needs to be added in the fall and then again after a soil test or tissue test done at pollination time.
this past year our tests were very late in coming back and it cost us pounds come weigh off time.
sprays will help but it is way better to have it available in the soil as needed
if ph needs to be raised be sure to use calcidic lime.
