Having tried to fill out a police report for vandalized pumpkins..Law Enforcement will do nothing to catch who ever did this, unless they know the growers. 1st thing they do is ask a value..go a $1.00 a lb. Then they say what for a pumpkin...you can just see the report ending up in the circular file cabinet.

Look here to see the local news coverage. I haven't gotten over it, heard about it 5 hours ago and I am still angry. I never get angry, too.
Big pumpkins only started coming out of Kansas last year. To have last year's state record destroyed by a grower (last year it was 600+#) was exciting! Then finding out his daughter was growing something in the 1000+pound range was over the top! but now its destroyed?
What motivates people to destroy other people's stuff? AARGH!

Grower's name is Brian Stanley, and his daughter is 11 years old.

In late July they vandalized our neighborhood including my patch. They hit my neighbor's big sunflowers and she called the police. The local law enforcement authorities laughed at her.

A lot of people don't understand how much hard work, time, enjoyment, and dedication it actually takes to grow a giant pumpkin. I tell my friends about competitive pumpkin growing and they say "My gosh there just pumpkins." To most people they are "just pumpkins", but I have been involved with this sport for almost half of my lifetime and to me they are more than "just pumpkins." They are now a very fun and enjoyable part of my spring and summer months. I had my pumpkin smashed last year and it really made me angry. But I will just grow one twice as big next year. The moral of this story is to never be detered by someone else's foolishness and above all else GROW EM BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete glasier slept out in his truck one night this year to avoid this potential problem. this is a shame we have to do this. one legal way to help deter them is those motion sensitive sprinklers

Hello to all. Gary a better way is heat seeking Missles. Keeps the water bill down!!! As the saying goes for those who do not know, they were just pumpkins!!! Would like to find the ones who messed us up and tell their families they were just kids, have more!! If the saying is true about Karma I want to be the guy holding the bat. Stand & deliver, Stand & deliver.
