Takao Hoshijima, whom I met on my trip to Japan in 1994,has set a new National Record for Japan. His beautiful orange pumpkin weighed 466.9 kg. x 2.2 = approx. 1,027 lbs. Takao has been National Champion many times and grew his current record from the Holland 1086-06.

Last year Shoji Shirai grew a 1192 lb (541 kg) pumpkin in Japan. That is the current record to my knowledge.
