First, most of the teenager are just fine but something happened today. I study at university of applied sciences and let my biggest pumpkin(188.5) sit on the table of our school diningroom for exhibition. Head chief asked me to keep it there for a week. Both teachers and students were amazed about the size. We have international school with lot of students from Africa and Asia and they were as amazed as Finnish students. Then something happened. Finnish girl, about twenty years sit next to the pumpkin and start to hit it with a knife and laughed. I didnt think thats very fun. I asked her to stop but I should have asked which is hers car and stab tires. I hope that she is now satisfied with her action. It seems that anything could happen when you grow pumpkins.

First let me say congrats on your giant. Second that girl should of been told that ruining a pumpkin is not cool it ruins it for everyone.Put a sign up near the pumpkin that says sorry about the stab marks but some pycho nut decided she would like to stab it which is not a nice thing to do.Don't let other peoples actions get to you. You grew a giant so again congrats

Don't let it get you down bud, losers come and losers go but not a lot of people can get a pumpkin to grow to 188lbs.

Miika,

I have a 731 pounder in my front yard & a middle school just a few hundred yards (meters) up the road. It's only a matter of time but fear doesn't govern my actions. I have considered coating the pumpkin with commercial Hot Sauce (a non edible animal repellent) that is 400 times stronger than a habarnero but have not yet.

I work from a home office so if I'm here when school gets out, I go out front to "observe" the kids' reaction. Teenage girls scream when they see it (what else?). The boys are different. Some shout profanities while other ask questions. Once I answer a question the other kids start asking away.

Q.) Is that thing real?
A.) Yes

Q.) Where'd ya get it?
A.) I grew it.

Q.) For real?
A.) No....I lie a lot.

Q.) My Dad says you can grow anything & that's why you got the nicest lawn around.
A.) Then why are you standing on it?

Q.) What did you feed it to get that big?
A.) Nothing...when it get hungry it goes off on it's own looking for teenagers.

What I have learned about it...Quickley get it so heavy that no teenager can steal it.

Lol Steve! I esp like the 'why are you standing on it'. The wussie lab with the big bark stays out back alot this time of year. Hang in there Miika, you're obviously a bigger person than the brat, God frowns on pumpkin abuse I hear, she'll get hers.

Miika, I will take next bus to your city and come to your school. Then I will sit next to your pumpkin whole schoolday and protect pumpkin with my life. Long live United Pumpkin Growers!! Or, maybe you need to tell other students what is your pumpkins name... that will scare them off;)
That pumpkin is my favourite pumpkin this year(and ofcourse that other one too;), nothing bad can happen to it.

We had some teenagers a few years ago try and blow up one of our bigger pumpkins (actually in was Jake van Kooten's 718 lber that he gave me) and when they could not damage it, some jackass came back and kicked it. Well in the process, he broke his foot and went to my next door neighbour for help.....too funny!

We lost our first field pumpkin to smashers today. I wasn't here when school let out. If it hasppens again I'll hetthem with Hot Sauce. When the vandal touches his/her face it'll be just as bad as getting nailed with Pepper Spray.

I'll post a sign of warning but signs never stop anybody.

Tremor, very sorry to hear that! People just don´t think or don´t care. Well, we don´t give up;) I remember this year somebody tried to steel one big pumkin from one "Jane Doe". Theef couldn´t carry it because it was so heavy and they dropped it few meters from where it was growing and pumpkin splittet in two peaces if I remember right. We all were very sorry. Do you remember that Miika? Pumpkin was growing in so called "city-field" from where people can rent some land to grow what ever they want.
