No weigh off that I know of in Nevada. The closest to you is Elk Grove, Cal., which is just South of Sacramento. The weigh off is this Saturday, Oct 6 and you gotta be there by 9 to enter. See this link for more details: http://www.egcsd.ca.gov/events/harvest.asp

Doug Yes Vince is correct, However with your help maybe we can get a weigh off together in the future at Reno; been thinking about one of the Casino's as we have our annual Farm Bureau convention at the Nugget in Dec.

Hmmm...we sold a 1502 Wallace at auction last winter to a fellow in Las Vegas. I've often wondered how he did with it. Is that you Doug?
Here is a means of locating a real GPC event. The GPC homepage:
http://www.greatpumpkincommonwealth.com/index.html
Click the tab "Find an Event" to launch:
http://www.zeesource.net/maps/map.do?group=31672&x=-71.1914&y=46.6796&z=14
To your west it looks like California is it.
Elk Grove on 10-06, Uesugi Farms Inc. on 10-13 & Paso Robles Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off on 10-20.
To the NE is Colorado.
Old Colorado City Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off on 10-6. Jared's Weighoff was last weekend.
Another option would be to find a certified scale & some witnesses. Take lots of pictures. Then get your results notarized & they'll at least be Official.

I'm actually currently putting the word out to people in town about Giant Pumpkins and possibly getting a Growers Association going. I am not too far away from the Nugget, so I will be checking out the Farm Bureau Convention at least to meet a few of you guys.
Wasnt me who had the 1502, but would be interested to see how it grew in Vegas. We have different climates as Reno is in the High Desert. But I am really enjoying growing these guys and this year is my personal best and I had good soil and a good seed behind it. I only grew 394 est at the moment, but still Nice.

Doug,
We've been considering mini-weigh-offs at the GPC.
There is really no reason that a grower can't hold his/her own GPC event right in their own driveway. All you'd need to do is find a scale company. file some papers with us & follow the rules. Its too late for this year but 2008...
The first level of entry is $100. You can find the Nevada area committee member (Joe) at the above mentioned website.
It's ironic that many growers spend more on seeds than our club spends to set up our entire weigh-off (except the prizes) every year.
Build it & they will come.

That would be a good idea. I'd also allow inline scales... I think more people can afford them.
