Post Pumpkin Depression. Taking my blue ribbon pumpkin to a weigh off this weekend, just to get one on the scales. My biggest went soft in the patch. Can't seem to get anything done, forget laundry just wandering around the patch thinking "next year....." Anyone else out there have PPD..what are your symptoms and how do you cope? I just bought a tin of chocolate covered carmel corn that I'm going to eat in one sitting...........Going to change my handle to BigCityGirl! ~Chriss

Not yet, as I haven't gotten my pumpkins weighed yet. But I'm already planning my seed lineup for next year. Coming to this site in the offseason helps. I also like to view the new entries in the AGGC(this helps me finalize my seed selection). Good food(not necessarily healthy) helps me as well. Maybe PPD will need to be labeled as new malady by the medical/mental health profession. Hang in there CityGirl....seed starting time is a little less than 7 months away...man that seems like a long wait!

I drink lots of beer and have note pads which I write down various supplies and what seeds Ill be growing. I keep tabs on weights and what to add to my compost tea. I try to stay busy as I can.

I'm with Jason although substitute beer with homemade wine. Six months isn't all that long, I guess. Stay busy, deciding on which crosses to go with next spring.

There is as much to do in the fall. It is just low profile. You do not get on TV by shoveling poop into the garden, at least I hope not. I do agree fall is the best and most exciting time when you get to see what everyone has accomplished. Camera crews and reporters at weighoffs are fun to watch too.

I'm already going thru PPD, and anxiety of harvesting my one and only pumpkin tomorrow night for weigh off Saturday. I really am going to be busy getting fertilizers and mulch into the patch for 2008. I have 3 books ready for Fall/Winter reading, and am hoping for a very short Winter! LOL! Can't wait for 2008 Season.

I've got another week of anxiety before I take to the scale for the first time. In anticipation of PPD, I'm shopping for a new(used)pick-up that I can fill with Manure using afore mentioned Pitch Fork, followed by a couple trips to the beach for a few loads of seaweed. Oh and next fall I'll use it to transport a big 1 for my 2nd trip to the scales. AAAH Dreams. Kevin

PPD Too Funny. Try having the 2 biggest pumpkins you have ever grown smashed to pieces 2 weeks before the weighoff. Not sure what that feeling is called I think PPD is a little mild. Better yet try telling your 11 year old that there is always next year after she had worked right beside you day after day in the heat. I think there may need to be a set down with Dr Phil over this one.

Are you offering your place for us to stay Pigeon. :) I hope you have a big place because some of these growers would become migrant pumpkin growers in a heart beat.
