Is there an appreciable difference between a strap lifter (without the ring) and the ring lifter? I am new to this whole mechanical lift world and I have only a strap lifter. Should I perhaps try to retrofit the strap lifter into a ring lifter? Has any one even done this?

Try using a rim off a tire from the local salvage yard?(There are a couple of pictures posted on this site that show this rig)Post some pictures if ya "git er done".The ring keeps pressure off the sides of the pumpkin has it is raised?Hope that helps? Myself I am going to talk to the local high School Shop teacher and see If he can weld me a ring.?Good Luck

The ring does balance the load better. I just had a bunch made up at a local steel fabricators shop. Send me a private email for details but please not til AFTER the weigh-offs are over. LOL

I've used both over the past two days, and actually I don't see much difference at all. Yeah, I'd probably give a slight nod to the ring lifter as a whole, but the strap lifter that I'm using has great quality "seat belt" type material straps. It's really fine, no issues whatsoever with either type.
