Has there ever been any prior attempt to identify seed quality and relate it back to a certain carpel within the fruit? Can certain seeds held in one carpel be more vigorus than others? What specific role does our pollination efforts play in the next generation? Is it possible to Identify or make a better seed?

The formation of seed in more complex plants depends on sexual reproduction in the flower. This process can be quite complex and is of fundamental interest to plant breeders.

Is there anyway to tell what section of newly harvested fruit will have the best seeds? Has anyone ever stored seeds separately by carpel section?

Excellent thoughts. I've often thought of this & also using just a single male "super pollinator" to limit genetic variability.

I have read something like this on Henry's Hole or an older forumn. Seems to me something before the AGGC was made.

I wonder the same thing, would using only one male that is very large and strong carry higher genetic potentiols than using 3-4, I wonder if the genetic codes are different in each pollen grain or in each flower? Points to ponder.

It was a couple years back, so my memory is a little subject, but I remember reading about someone documenting the seed extraction on a pumpkin. The seeds were classed as stem end, blossom end and centre, I think it was Len Stellfplug( probably screwed up the spelling) and i don't think there was any great differences, I am sure someone out there knows more about this

i think one of the new england guys did it, i can't remember who. I saved the seeds from my 427 and 785 separated by lobe, but never got enough planted to make any statistical determinations.
