Any one sweating bullets now that the weigh offs are just around the corner?
If you are, I know how you feel! I wish the weigh offs would happen today.

Hang in there and start drinking a few more extra beers then you usually would if you happen to have them, and relax if you can, cause what happens from here on out will happen ,and if that something does happen then thats just something that was going happen when you happen to grow these giants. This so happened to be told to me by a grower that just so happens to live in RI.

So if your sweating bullets, chit Happens and don't worry about if it does happen, cause if its going to happen it will happen anyway.

WARNING - If you do have extra beers, stay out of the patch. Everything seems like a good idea after a few extra beers.

Funny thing, I was cleaning up around the patch a bit and I found 2 empty Budweiser bottles that obviously didn't germinate correctly.. I was hoping for a great yield. 24 bottles for every 1 planted? Dang, Chit does happen....

I know, chit does happen, and it sucks when it does. I've lost 3 pumpkins this year and am down to one. Goes with the territory of growing these guys I guess. Out of our control. Those buggers are gonna do what they want to anyway, even with your best of intentions, LOL! I'll eat those words, if I go home tonight and find my last one with a soft spot, LOL!

It happens, and I STILL intend on going to a weigh off. It's all fun, and part of the game. Hurts when they do go down, my heart cracked 3 times already this Summer and I have two more weeks to go before Oswego. Sheesh! Pressure! I don't think I can stand it.

I've decided not to worry about it, it's a pumpkin, and if she goes down, I will be disappointed, but there is always next year!

I am starting to worry a lot too. Starting to rain and just had one of the small carvers go down to mold. Yikes. 11 days left, crossing fingers and toes. Good luck to all!

My son and I know all too well what it is like to lose pumpkins late in the season. 2 years ago I lost a 750# and Jacob lost a 500# and an 850# in the week before weighoff. And that was after I lost a 500# growing on a 1000+ pace in early August. No problem like that this year: we made some mistakes and lost them all in August. No use beating yourself up over it, just move on and try again. I just hope things hold up for those who have real special pumpkins growing this year. We sure would like to have the new world record show up here in Anamosa. Gives us something big to aim for!

id say a good average for pumpkins holding up from day 30 to pickin is about 50 percent.

in 2005 we started with ten pumpkins and ended up with six
in 2005 we started with eighy pumpkins and are down to four

i have said many times that all levels of growers have problems and issues with growing these freaks of nature and thats just what your growing a geneticly altered freak of nature.

Wet summer and dry September.....definitely the longest month. Have two left and the largest has a rotting main behind the pumpkin. Only the secondaries in front are feeding it now. Gotta make it to Oct. 17th......Whew!!!

I'm whacked. I can't sleep even with the increased beer consumption, that darn Budweiser Hero song keeps going thru my head all night long (smash, smash, smash 'em up!). I hear Citracal commercials on the radio, the mention of calcium gives me hives. If fact the mention of calcium, fish (I'm not fishing anymore), seaweed (sushi is out), or any of the metals gives me hives. I get dry heaves from the mention of potassium, and I work in a hospital, you can see my plight. The dog barks at night and I run to the backyard in my undies, I keep a flashlight on my bedside table. If you want to rob the house, just come in the front door, I'll be in the backyard, the lab is a push over.
