Greetings.
My name is Jeremy and I am a student at Longwood Gardens in Southeast PA <www.longwoodgardens.org>. This summer, I and some other daring rookies attempted to grow several pumpkins on 32 vines. We were not proactive in our fungicide application. In about a one week span beginning the first week of July, and after hundreds of hours of amending and germinating and transplanting and cultivating and watering and fertilizing and pruning, fungus claimed almost all of them. Longwood Gardens needs 7-9 400-600# fruits for their "Everything Autumn Festival." The fall display will draw between 30k and 60k visitors, on average, in October. This is the first year Longwood has incorporated "Giant" Pumpkins into their display. We are willing to drive about five hours from the Philadelphia area to pick them up. If you or someone you know has a group of fruits in this size range they would be willing to sell and part with by the second week of October, please contact me. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Will you pay the shipping charges from MN? It's yours if so. Sorry to hear about the fungus among us, it's a challenge to make the scales.

I'd go to a big weighoff with a big truck and a check book.

Jeremy, Head to Cooperstown or Altoona for their weigh offs and you should find sellers there. Altoona is the 6th of October and I think Cooperstown is next Saturday. Also be ready to pay around 40-50 cents per pound for each fruit, meaning that a 400 pounder will cost you around 100-150 dollars minimum. Hey, it takes time and big time money to grow these things!

Thank you for all of your responses to my recent posting. Thankfully, we have acquired our first set of 400-600# fruits from a single grower. We hope to likewise acquire our second set of 7-9 fuits from a single grower, but if LWG does haul an empty stake-body truck to Altoona, what price are you hoping to recover for your efforts this season? Multiple professional carvers have been lined up for on-site carving demonstrations at LWG—one for each set of fruits. Scott Cully is among them, along with a pro carver from Chicagoland, and a talented local carver. The first two fruits were carved today!!! As far as seeds are concerned, Longwood Gardens would gratefully return them to you promptly. Please feel free to peruse the LWG website <longwoodgardens.org> and email me with your replies <[email protected]>
I also heard through the grapevine that LWG may be searching for a contractual AG grower next year. Any thoughts?
Regards,
Jeremy
