Ya that is great. My wife "allows" half the backyard for pumpkins....she watched lord of the gourds show with me now she wants a porsche for the other half of the yard.....considering it!!

Yeah I dont believe in cutting grass I cant stand people who thinks its a religion. Its a chore nothing more nothing less. If grass can grow there then Pumpkins and veggies can grow there.

Not True. As I dug up my grass/weeds this year, out about 8-10' beyond my original Patch,I found I needed extra Nitrogen and Iron to keep green leaves. I also had to amend w/manure and soil from my reg.garden. I do agree on the Chore aspect. kevin

This thread has turned hysterical.
I don't get it. My name is on the mortgage & I planted the grass. If it was all still grass, I'd be mowing it or paying to get it cut. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. She works too. If my wife wants a new car she's free to buy one just as sure as if I want to till up the lawn that's what I'm going to do.
You girls are killing me. I love my wife dearly but I'll be darned if I'd ask her permission to rip out the lawn. Back when the backyard was a 2 hole putting green you can bet your bottom dollar it was me out there with a greens mower every single day mowing the fool thing. Pumpkins are no less labor but a good deal more rewarding for me now. A dogs & a ten year old will do that for a lawn anyway; especially a real putting green. LOL
This from a guy who makes his living selling grass seed, fertilizer & chemicals no less. I really have to agree that besides the public side of my home where the turf is pretty sweet, grass in back is a fairly useless waste of resources & energy. Especially if the option is more Giant Pumpkins.

Would someone please explain this to my husband? He thinks we still need grass! My dad is in agreement that the back yard would look nice with pumpkin leaves. It's an ideal spot too, privacy galore! I WISH! I would be in divorce court if I asked, as someone would have to till all that land, LOL!
