What lengths do you go to keep your giants warm? Do you cover the whole plant leaves and all and fruit, or just the fruit?

I have the pumpkins covered with flannel sheets and quilts tonight. It's a low of 39 for us tonight.

to beat freezing temps I go to this length,,,

frost you can beat with row covering, tarps or plastic held off the plants on stakes, or overhead irrigation in the early morning b4 the sun hits the leaves

Wow that's lots of work and great protection of plants. Hope it warms up and soon. One more day of cold weather here, then it's back to summer temps again will be in the 80's by the end of the week.

thank you for joining the sngpg. i received your info and check yeaterday

as far as the frost goes?

itys a matter of choice as to how far you are willing to go with protection

if its a real large competitive pumpkin that your nursing along then yes you might want to cover the plant with some remay or drive some stakes into the ground and cover with a cheep plastic for the night as has been suggested

some people run sprinklers every hr or so although we have never had to do this

if frost does get your plant as long as the pumpkin is protected then you should get a small continued growth for at least another week after the plant melts down

Well I think the worst of the frost is over and I think we were lucky. No white stuff on the lawn this morning. It was pretty cold. They are still covered as its pretty chilly out there still. Will have them uncovered before noon to get the sun today at least.

Mine are not record breaking pumpkins by any means but certainly better than last year and just trying to keep it together til Oswego.

Thanks!
