30 day old fruit sometimes yield a few viable seeds but 40+ is batter.

I culled a fruit at day 25 this summer. It weighed about 75# on the scale and I let it sit outside until day 50+- I believe then cut it open. It was still not softening.
I think I have about 200 seeds that are possibly ok. Many (not including the 200) I split open were almost empty.
I test planted 3 Tuesday. 2 of them have great root system. They have broken soil and stand about 3 inches tall. One has 75% full green cots. The other has half cots. #3 still hasn't broken soil so time to dig :) I did file the seeds and still had to remove the coat by hand.

Ask around for some seeds and grow a much bigger one this year. Save the seeds. Spending a whole season second guessing is probably not something I would do with room for only two plants. That is just me.

age is more important than size. I have seeds from a 19.5 and a 21 that have germinated, and even grown a nice fruit.

I'll be at Stillwater for sure. Bringing a pumpkin (I hope) and hopefully a mater also.
I have a picture of the seed I just sprouted in my diary (1213 Foss x 1231 Pukos = DROOOOOOOOOOOOL).
