Suggestion,
Not that the GPC council doesnt do or have enought to do, but can I suggest they vote each year and award something for the "Best Newsletter" of the year award. This could serve to better our hobby and and promote the journals. It could also serve to improve current newsletter making them better for the readers....Just a suggestion........Please Advise

How about taking this one step further. In order to encourage people to contribute to their local organization who provides the best continous article, entrys, etc to their local newletter. That is what makes the newsletter" membership participation." I personally feel sorry for the people that have to put those newsletters together without much help. They do a great job.

I think I will speak if I may for all the newsletter editors past and present. If your the editor it usually means you write, take pictures, format, print and mail the letter. Carts has a good idea!

I'm a little biased but the GVGO sure does publish a good newsletter or should I say magazine!!!!!! Editors Phil Joynson, Phil Hunt, Jane Hunt, Lisa Irwin, Dave MacCallum and many new authors keep this newsletter the must have newsletter within the pumpkin world.

unfortunately putting ou a newsletter is very time consuming and depending on the photo-paper and ink quality can be expensive
a lot of mid to small clubs can not afford to do this.
basicly as long as you are communicating weith your members, passing on information and facts? it should not matter how the newsletter looks
one of the best articles i read years ago regarding how to grow pumpkins was a 15 page copied and stapled (with hand drawing to boot ) article that we learned a lot from

Frank Edwards puts together an excellent news letter for the mgpg group.I don't know how he finds the time to put it together, but he is the man when it comes to graphics. Thanks for the great work Frank.

Franks graphics are awesome. He designed the GPC & Ct logos. Others too I'm sure.
Hmmmm....with all the talent we have lurking around here maybe we should produce one super-newsletter. The clubs just contribute what they can & subscribe to it. Leave a couple pages open for local or regional news.

Thanks guys. I was thinking SNGPG for best newsletter. Steve C's articles have been very insightful and well researched. Though in truth I haven't seen many newsletters so I can't say about the others. GVGO for best website. I believe Marc Levy is responsible for that. PGVG for best spring seed packet. Putting out a newsletter is indeed time-consuming and costly, no doubt about it. In Michigan we try to e-mail .pdf files to as many members as possible as opposed to incurring print/postal cost. But some people prefer to have the actual printed piece and I can't say I blame them. A nice printed piece also helps lend credibility to the group and can be an effective marketing tool for recruiting new members. Interesting idea, Trem...a Super Newsletter for the AG community at large.
