I have a pumpkin that I have been battling a soft spot on that originated around a growth crack. I have had to cut away a portion of the flesh that was going bad. It has a hole about an inch or so deep in it but it does not go all the way into the cavity. If I can keep it dry and keep it from continueing to worsen, will it be eligible to be weighed at a weigh off? I have read as long as it doesn't go into the cavity then it is still legal. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can have that weighed. You can have a pumpkin with a hole in it weighed as well, if it were of record size it wouldn't count as a record.

It will be up to the site judges. A cavity breech is what it is - immediate DMG status. A soft spot is like a brush fire - the judges will need to decide if you've contained it. If it is obviously on the verge of an inferno they have the right to DQ the fruit even if the cavity isn't yet breached.

Best wishes!
