How long do you all prefer the straps to be on your lifter?? I plan on useing a tripod with 16ft. legs.

Straps are pretty much standard for length. Ours will lift a 1500 lber or a smaller pumpkin. Are you loading a pickup? 16 ft. should be OK for almost any size pumpkin. www.bigseeds.com - supplies section. Many growers are going to the strap lifter for convenience and loading onto a tarp. /Ray

16 feet is fine for the tripod. I couldn't find 16 foot 4x4 lumber so I ended up extending 12 footers to add an additional 3 feet on each. Just used it for the first time tonight and it was fine... although with a smaller pumpkin (which takes less space inside the straps) I can see how 16 feet would be handy.
Of course, the bed on my pickup is pretty low. Some of these new pickups, where you need a ladder to access the bed, I don't know.......;-)

The rings I've used had 6' straps from loop end to loop end.
I ordered straps for rings today - single ply, 2" wide x 6 feet long double loop, 3500 lb strength I believe.

Tremor, where did you order your straps. If online do you have a link?
