I have a pumpkin that has been leaking sap for sometime now but today I noticed a soft spot forming around a couple of the oozing cracks. I cleaned up the area and applied some Captan powder and applied a fan to the areas. My question is, if I get it dried up and it scars over, will it still be eligible to weigh at the local fair? The soft spot was just on the surface and not deep at all so I think I can stop it. Thanks

Yes. If a soft spot dries up & never breaches to the cavity then there is no foul. But if a soft spot is excessive, running badly, smells foul, etc, then the site officials have a responsibility to call for an inspection & ruling. Three - five judges are the standard at a GPC weigh-off. All will be well versed in these matters.
You're doing it right. Other than a qucik bleach bath, keep the area DRY.

I have been applying Captan powder and have a fan blowing on it, but it still is spreading a little. Is there anything else that I can put on it to make it dry up?
