Scott, I'm trying to get a list of scale companies that do make that particular one, but haven't gotten it yet. still working on it.

I do have this list I can share - it's from 2003. http://www.kyagr.com/marketing/farmmarket/documents/SMCompanyListDevice.pdf

It's a resource given to farmers' marketers to find scales.

I also did a quick google search yesterday and found about 4-5 different companies. Sometimes they are called floor scales, other times platforms. They can go up pretty large; however, it seems that there are some that are for under 5000 lbs. Most are bigger than that. Several for up to 2000 lbs.

Of course, too, looking on the internet - I saw them for over $1000. I was told they'd be pricey. As for rentals, you'll have to contact scale companies themselves.

ONE thing to remember about scales. EACH time they are moved, they need to be checked. SO, get your site set up; place your scales where they'll be for the event; have your inspector check them - sticker them (if you're clear about whether it's a national weigh-off - especially for the upper level GPC sites - just local) the inspector will take note of that. They will adjust their tolerances to be tighter.

Everyone weighing potentially 10 pounds off at a individual site is ok and within tolerance with them as long as those entries on that scale are compared with each other. however, if they are to be compared to other sites, they need to better calibrate and do a better tolerance level.

But once the scales are certified for competition, DO NOT MOVE THEM, or technically you should have the inspectors check them again.

My inspectors here at work take these VERY serious and are actually the ones that had me start doing certified weights at the KY State Fair, even if it's not on the "map" of weigh-offs. We do things right or we're not going to do it :)
