THIS TIME OF THE YEAR INCHES ARE GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO COME BY. HERE ARE A FEW SECRETS TO ADDING INSTANT INCHES TO YOUR FINAL MEASUREMENTS. PLEASE SHARE SOME OF YOURS AS WELL.
tape with the blankets on the pumpkin ---- add more as needed up to pickin
when measuring side to side and over the top try sticking the tape down into the soil ---- or dig a small hole
circumference measurements can also be increased by wrapping the tape around the stem a couple times.

Ed, How much over 1000lbs? I've wrapped the tape around my stem 13 times and pushed the tape 4 inches into the ground on all sides...man I'm pushing about 1400 right now! I may add a few more wraps this afternoon. I really need to get some more weight out of it! lol Thanks Pap, I never knew I could grow one this big!!!

When 'sandbagging', measure with the opposite end of the tape and record. Then you can truthfully tell people your pumpkin went wayyyyyyyyy heavy. Sherry

also if you dont use blankets you can
side to side --- start on one side at middle ground of fruit, wrap the tape up and over the shoulder and back down to the ground. great for that last minute measurement pap

I Just use a metric tape and record the CM as inches. I also have my rubber band tape that works well increasing the OTT as well.
Also, after you wrap the tape around a few times make sure to leave it on during the weighoff. Any extra pounds will be recorded.

When I saw this post i was thinking a different way. Adding late season inches: Extra helpings of Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread...and my favorite, Deep fried pumpkin blossoms. ...Paul

Another option is to record the CIRC after wrapping your tape around the pumpkin along with the 6 or 8 guys that will move the monster. That will really deliver a personal best!

You can hire my daughter to help you tape [see backyard giants released yesterday pg 138] or break out the new revised weight estimation table. Hell create your own table!! Peter

Thank you Pap for the much needed laughter! I really didn't know I was measuring wrong, LOL! Personal best for me then, maybe even a world record, LOL! Gotta love it.
Waiting to watch Lord of the Gourds tonight and my hubby is wondering why I am laughing, LOL!
