About 4 weeks ago a critter decided to take a bite out of one my pumpkins. I treated with a bleach solution, then captan and covered with great stuff foam to keep the area dry and critters away. The pumpkin has healed, growing like crazy and has pretty much grown over the great stuff foam. All that is left is about 1 inch of great stuff foam visible on the surface.I have dug out as much as I dare without cutting into the pumpkin flesh. The pumpkin has healed itself. Does this violate weigh off rules? I would be surprised if there is a 50th of an ounce or less of the foam on the healed over bite area.I do not want to dig deeper, for fear of causing a new infection during the coller, crucial September days. The pumpkin is solid and firm. And for me may be a PB. Thanks

the rule say there can not be a hole though the caverty if your damage is not into the caverty you will be ok. if the pumpkin looks sound your PB is going to be recourded in history !! for all to see good luck ! make us proud

Don't ruin the pumpkin digging. The night before the weigh-off, remove what you can. If you suspect there are still traces remaining, arrive early at the weigh-off & ask for a ruling & explain why. A decent judge will let you finish digging while it's still on the truck if said judge believes you even should.
As stated you REALLY don't want to breach the cavity or you will be DQed.

Hey Bill - bring it to the weighoff. worst that happens is that the judges take a knife to it to dig everything out with your help. I wouldn't monkey with it now if it's still growing good.

thats a tough one Hammer,Ive seen at a weigh off where there was just a dime size soft spot on the side of a huge pumpkin with no holes anywhere that the judges ended up DQ'ing. The judges told the grower that they didn't think it would last till the end of the 3 day festival, but it ended up lasting way be on that 3 days and then some. Then I seen in previous weigh offs where you could have stuck your fist in around the stem area after you removed the putty from it first, and no one said a word. So I guess it depends on the judges.
