I have a hoist which will be attached to the loading forks on my tractor. I have three straps built two to put width wise on the pumpkin and one length wise. My question is how do you get the straps under the pumpkin. This maybe a dumb question but this is my first time trying to pick up some this big. Im just wondering how the heck do you get the straps under the pumpkin to lift it safely? If yall can understand my question any replys would be appreciated.

Jason, a few able bodied buddies to roll the pumpkin up on one side, put the strap under, then roll it the opposite way and pull the strap out of that side. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah I guess Im gonna have to get a crew together and do some manual lifting. I guess then I just need some strong backs and able bodies to help me out. Its kindoff cool that Im actually worrying about how the heck im gonna move these things. Thanks Hoots

Jason, I have a lifter that has a spreader at the top and has 8-4' long straps that hang down with loops on the end. You let the straps hang down around the pumpkin to the ground and then run a rope thru the straps. Then you pull the rope tight making the loop in the rope smaller than the pumpkin and tie a knot in it. Then you can pick it up easy with the your tractor. I will send you a pic this evening. I sold John Van Hook one like this. I think John has picked some 900 pounders up with his. They may need some longer straps for the giants it sounds like they are going to have there. If i get to see you this weekend I will bring the lifter and tarp I have to lift with and show them to you. Take care , Doug Jn 3:16

You don't need to run the straps under the pumpkin. run a rope through the ends of the straps if they have loops in them. put the rope around the pumpkin and sinch it up as far as you can then tie it off. take a look in some diaries and you will find some pictures that show how they hook them up.
