Subject: Vine "dry rot"?

Does anyone know what actually causes this "dry-rot" condition on the vine?It is only in certain areas that i have noticed were covered in dirt.Could the vine just have stayed wet for to long and actual rotted the aera and then when it dries give the appearance of "dry-rot"? It doesn't go all the way through just around the top part? Definately must impact growth..(See my diary entery for picture) Thanks Bumkin

its for that treason that we incourage uncovering the main and a few feet of all sides off the main once vine borer season has passed

Another Lesson learned...Look out 2008!!! I got to thinking after I posted this is I hand broadcast 0-0-60(Murate of Potash) around the vines in this area and remembering what Tremor had said about using this same product to melt ice I bet I "salted" them dry!!!ugghhh Another Lesson Learned!!!
