Im wondering if any of you competition growers are looking forward to taken a month of in October. This is my first year growing for competition and all though I love it im looking forward to just relaxing for at least a month before I have to ammend my soil in November. My girlfriend and I were discussing that theres still 5 sleepless weeks for me. Anything can and will happen but Im looking forward to some time just to enjoy the fall. Well have fun yall the rides not over yet.

Nope, up here we worry about a thing called snow. I'll be clearing brush and trees and prepping the new patch for 08 before the bad weather hits.

Relax? What's that. LOL! There is always work to be done before the snow flies around these parts. Have loads of prep work to do before the snow hits and plenty of Fall chores besides. Here's hoping they all get done before any real snow hits the ground.

Yeah I forget about the norths early snowfall. Here we dont get much snow until late december. I get to prep in November and kick back in October. My grandparents live in a small town in western New York called Hilton. I swear they dont see the ground from November to April. Its so darn preety up there but the snow must get old after a while. Maybe yall will get least a week to relax. Take it easy if ya get a chance.

Jason, I live nearby Hilton within a half hour or so, and believe me with lake affect from Lake Otario, yes Winters can be long and brutal! By March cabin fever sets in, so we really do enjoy our Summers with vacations, pumpkin patch and gardening. Love the changes of the seasons myself but Winter I could do with less of, but know it's coming.

I love visiting that area everyone is so cool and laid back. The food up there is unbelievable. You guys know how to enjoy your summers while they last. Lots of great festivals and of course Zweigel hot dogs. I camp at hamlin Beach State park every year and im probally moving up there in a few years I love the fact nothing ever changes there.

Good for you! As long as you don't mind the snow. Thing with snow is it's not permanent, it does go away, even though it seems like it takes forever to leave sometimes. Summer is great here, and glad you enjoy it! I sure do. Zweigels can only be bought here in this area unless you order online. Costs a small fortune but worth it as I've sent some to Texas to my friend down there. WE take loads of stuff for granted here but it is a great area to live in if you can afford it. Taxes are higher, but lifestyle is certainly worth it to me.

Yeah the work will still be there, cleaning up and prepping the patch etc. BUT....at least the sleepless nights will done for awhile. That will be more than enough break for me. I'm tired! lol

My worries are critters, deer, woodchuck, bunnies, and even skunks like to investigate the patch. My worry is waking up some morning and finding it ALL gone! Someone had the idea they wanted pumpkin for a midnight snack.

Thats what im looking forward to the most is sure I gotta work and prep the patch. But my nails are gone from worrying at night time. Ive already had two splits and im down two eight pumpkins and a couple are making me a little nervous. Ill have a big sigh of relief If I can just get one too the scales. Even if it isnt that big.

I had a major blow up today with the orange beast (see my diary) WARNING PICTURES are dangerous! It just was all soft on the bottom and a huge crack on the side. SAD! I pulled the whole plant up tonight and pumpkin is destroyed. Oooh that was painful. This is the same plant I had vine bores on early in the season and hubby's cousin did some surgery on. Boy is that heartbreaking!

Diamond lady sorry to hear about your pumpkin that just sucks. Everyday can be make or brake I feel. I seen your diary and thats a weird crack. I also battled vine borers early in August and I still spray just in case. I hope ya got some more going.
