Will a foliar spray of an oil, clog the pores and prevent absorption of future foliar sprays? I'm getting some powdery mildew in spite of using systemics, contacts & milk sprays. I'm thinking of trying an oil.
Thanks,.....Glenna

I use Neems oil as one part of a three part attack against powdery mildew.

I have sprayed it three times so far this season with a complete under and upper leaf drenching spray. It has not had any effect on any of the other foliar applications. I wouldn't spray it back to back on successive days, but the waxy look the leaves get dissapears within a few days and the leaves seem to actually like the stuff.

I rotate that with a milk spray - one cup per gallon - then a baking soda spray - 1 teaspoon per gallon. I have powdery mildew on my cucumbers, zucchini, adn squash plants, but not a bit on the pumpkins - which i believe is due to the more focused spray regime I just mentioned.

I heard the the best defense agains powdery mildew is to come come at it from lots of different angles and i don't like fungicides - due to the harshness.

If oil is applied at 1% (as directed) then it won't clog the leaf stomata. Oil alone acts to control Powdery Mildew but as a companion to Potassium bicarbonate, acts as a superior surfactant. There wouldn't be as much benefit from using it alone.

Glenna, Its been tough, I am having to apply my sprays in more water then normal to guarantee that I hit all the leaf surfaces. The only places I've seen powdery mildew are in areas which I miss with my fogger or don't get adequate coverage.

fortunately nana powdery mildew is usually a very slow death and not as bad as having a soil born disease in your plant
