all of my secondaries have been cut and buried for a while. MY main is still growing but i really want to know what people think about keeping the main going. doesnt the plant pay more attention to the main vines growth rather than the pumpkin?>

I have terminiated everything including the main vine, at this point I think it's full speed ahead to the fruit, we need no more lettuce......

However Wiz, alot of growers terminated everything except the main and let it grow till it stops or in my case, runs out of ground.

I always terminate secondaries and leave the main growing usually till the beginning of September when I run of of patch. This year I am going to train the secondary up some fishing net and over my neighbours fence for a few extra feet.

Sorry, I meant train the main, not the secondary to grow over the fence.

I leave the main growing, as a safety valve, in case of a sudden growth spurt. On one of my plants, the main just quit growing, and ended with a few small leaves. The pumpkins is still growing though.

Glenn wish we knew more, I have a 1174 Wallace that the main got smashed and has nothing past the pumpkin since pollination, biggest at Jareds and growing faster than any of the 14 going, It just makes me wonder about the stuff past the pumpkin on the main about it taking away or adding to the fruit growth.......

I hear ya Wiz but I've always been advised to leave the main and that is what I do.

I still think that growth past the pumpkin provides energy and power to the sink that you have as the chosen one.
