the stalks of the leaves are still solid, should I keep the leaves on the plant and will food still travel through the plant or once the leaves have died off is the entire stalk pretty useless? Have aphid damage and leaves are shot, the the stalks are solid. Want to cut off all the ugly stuff......but not if food will still travel to the fruit and the rest of the plant.

Some folks cut the dead leaves off but leave the vines. If it makes you feel better to not look at them, I would recommend taking them off. The vines will remain somewhat productive even without leaves.

I'll vouch for that. I had to do some leaf cutting and they are still growing at a bit slower pace, but think that is due to the cooler temps in the last 2 days. It won't hurt the pumpkins if you do major cutting. I would be careful how many you cut, but, regardless it will grow new leaves and probably slow down your pumpkin briefly. Mine are still putting on pounds with very little leaves.

And the vines will grow new leaves rather quickly. Hang in there.

once the leaf is drird out or crispy it is useless to the plant.
if anything once something is dead it starts to decay. decay can help inspire disease.
i cut out the dead leaves,stalks and all ( not the vine )and spray the cut area with a 1 to 10 solution of bleach and water
