Anyone know how old this pumpkin was and was it still growing at the time it was cut it off the vine? That sure is a huge pumpkin this early in the season thats for sure!

Seems like he said it was 76 days old and was still growing 5 lbs a day when he cut it.

I guess the big question would be WHY (!!!???) did he cut it if it was still growing??!!! I know the Indiana State Fair is a big deal but you'd think a World Record would be worth the wait. Interesting question Brooks!!!!!!

I heard through the grapevine that it measured well over 1500 lbs. My guess (and only that just my guess) would be that he figured it was a world record when he cut it to take it.

Ron Wallace mentioned yesterday that pumpkins over 1400 were all taping heavy. The actual weights were all a bit lower than what the OTT measured.

421 ott which is around 1550 lbs. 76 days old is getting up there, better to have a 1468 than nothing at all I suppose.

"I have been blessed that a few of my seeds have done well. My top pick at this time is the 998.6.I believe it only scratched the surface last year and I think it has 1500 pound potential"
This was the answer Joe Pukos gave to me during his interview for the GVGO newsletter.become a member of the GVGO. and keep on top of your game with tons of info!! I would say Joe knows pumpkins!
hey Joe you have a few extra 998.6 seeds laying around!!:)

If you look at the picks it has the shape of alot of the pumpkins with the 1420 in the background. Alot of which blossom end split. As Kelly said, better to have a 1468 than nothing. A whole lot better, LOL.

I dunno, Id think if its still growing why not let it grow, thats if it was still growing. I think Id rather have the biggest pumpkin ever weighed with the DMG behind it rather then having it be labeled as 3rd biggest ever weighed. Ether way its still a monster pumpkin.

Its funny because real recently there was the issue of pumpkin shape discused... It was mentioned that the longer pumpkins with tails win at the scales... No tail on that monster!!

The 1468 was a 998 Pukos selfed. It was an awesome pumpkin that was still growing some. The 998 Pukos was grown for the Indy. fair and had no weakness what so ever that being said it was taping 1550 and picked it. One awesome pumpkin I would have done the same thing. Great job Joe.
