Are you sure they stopped growing? Do you measure them every couple days? They're probably still growing, just at a much slower rate. I'd measure them today, then again in a few days. If they're growing, leave them on the vine.

Jeremy, keep them plugged in the the vine as long as you have a plant.
There is no point in taking them off the plant now if you want them for Halloween...be patient.

The measurement might not show any growth if checked everyday -wait 5-7 days, Ill bet you still get some growth ! Even one inch, or a few inchs is Growth !!!

Jeremy,
Once a pumpkin stops growing, it won't start up again. If it slows down, it may continue growing. The powdery stuff sounds like powdery mildew. You may also have a bacterial problem, such as wilt. If growing these things was easy, EVERYONE would have a 1000#er in their backyard! Believe me, I know!

Jeremy, you have powdery mildew it sounds like. You have got to get ahead of that if you want to keep those pumpkins alive! There are many good products out there including Daconil that will work as long as you have not let it go to far. I was advised by a "very" reputable grower that even if a pumpkin stops visible growth it will still put on weight as long as the vine is healthy. His advise to me was leave it on as long as the plant looks good. Thanks Pap!

Powdery Mildew for sure. Spray under each leaf with a good fungicide or at least a 10% milk/water solution & leave the pumpkin on the vine even if all of the leaves die. Cover it with a sheet or blanket too.
