the blossom end of my pumpkin is softening and showing areas of potential rot? what can i do? or is it over?

really soft? Get the seeds out if you can. Sorry brother, sounds like their is no option.

it's over.
You can try and scape out soft spot and put fungicide powder on area with a fan blowing on area, but most people don't have much luck.

is it he blossom parts ie "belly button" or is it the pumpkin flesh itself?

I used a 10% bleach solution on mine as well as Agro K Cal and Cal Phos.. Used a blow dryer on the cool setting after each application. The spot is almost an inch deep but has now scared over and it is fine. Just a spot that I need to keep dry.
